Radiance brings a completely new type of unit to Riftbound, and Orianna, Lady of Clockwork is the Legend that makes it happen. Equipment can now become a unit, and that changes how gear works in a pretty big way.

What the card does

At the start of each of your Main Phases, Orianna lets you pay one Energy to pick a gear you control and turn it into a unit. That unit’s Might is equal to the gear’s Energy cost, and it stays a unit until you use her on a different gear (Riot Games, n.d.-a).

This is how Radiance introduces Equipment Units. Riot has already closed the obvious loophole, as an Equipment that becomes a unit is automatically unequipped (Riot Games, 2026).

Why it matters

Gear is usually the support act in Riftbound, the thing that makes your units better. Orianna flips that around and lets the gear become the army. The scaling is the interesting part, as Might equals the gear’s Energy cost, so expensive gear turns into big bodies. That quietly rewards decks that play a few high-cost pieces of equipment instead of lots of cheap ones.

It’s also flexible from turn to turn. You’re not locked into one choice, so if your current gear unit gets removed or a better piece of gear lands, you can simply move the effect to something else at the start of your next Main Phase.

Her champion card fits right in

Orianna’s Champion Unit, Mechanical Marvel, makes gear cheaper to play once each turn while she’s at a battlefield (Riot Games, n.d.-a). On its own that’s a small discount, but alongside her Legend it’s the other half of the plan, which is cheaper gear that the Legend can then turn into units.

The Overnumbered version

Like all nine new Legends, Orianna also comes in an Overnumbered alternate art version, which can also be found with an artist’s signature (Riot Games, 2026). The standard card is by Envar Studio, while the Overnumbered version by Anh Dang shows her mid-motion, with her brass sphere right beside her.

In League of Legends

Orianna, the Lady of Clockwork

Mage / Support · Piltover & Zaun

Orianna was once a curious girl of flesh and blood. After an accident in the lower districts of Zaun left her gravely ill, her failing body was replaced piece by piece with exquisite clockwork. Today she’s a technological marvel, exploring Piltover and beyond alongside the extraordinary brass sphere she built for companionship and protection (Riot Games, n.d.-b).

From the Rift to the table

The Legend card carries her exact League of Legends title, Lady of Clockwork, and the mechanic fits her story almost perfectly. In League, Orianna barely fights herself, as she commands her Ball to do the work, and on the table she turns your equipment into units that fight for you. There’s even a nod in the set itself, as one of the Radiance spells in Riot’s gallery is called Command: Attack, the same name as one of her League abilities (Riot Games, n.d.-a; Riot Games, n.d.-b). Her full story is on her official League of Legends champion page.

What we don’t know yet

Some interactions will only become clear once the full set and the rules are out on October 23. The big one for me is how she combines with Deploy gear, like Ziggs’s Bombs, which normally can only sit on a battlefield, and until we have real rulings I’d treat any combo theory as just that. In the meantime, catch up with my Radiance reveal, and every Spotlight so far is on the Cards page. Next up is Viktor, who wins with an army that never stops growing.

It are what it are.
