Some Legends are patient, and Darius, Hand of Noxus is the complete opposite, as everything he does is about momentum and rewards you for doing a lot in a single turn.

What his Legend does

Darius gives you one extra Energy, but only through Legion, which means you get the effect if you’ve already played a card this turn (Riot Games, n.d.-a). The Legend never starts your turn for you, but it does reward you for keeping things going, as your first play becomes fuel for the next one.

His champion cards

Darius, Executioner uses Legion too, so if you’ve played another card this turn he enters ready, and he gives your other units +1 Might at his battlefield. Darius, Trifarian gets +2 Might and readies himself whenever you play your second card in a turn (Riot Games, n.d.-a). The versions shown here are alternate arts that use League of Legends splash artwork, credited to the League Splash Team.

Why it matters

Every one of his cards asks the same question, which is how many cards you’ve played this turn. Play one cheap card and the Legend gives you an extra Energy for the next one. Play a second and Trifarian swings in bigger and ready to act, while Executioner arrives ready and makes the rest of your attack hit harder.

It’s a lot like a fast break in basketball, where one quick pass leads to the next until the defence simply can’t recover. My take is that this is an aggressive deck that snowballs quickly, but only if you plan your turns well, as a clunky hand will struggle to chain plays together.

The Overnumbered version

The standard Legend is by Six More Vodka, and the Overnumbered alternate art is by Peter Kim (Riot Games, n.d.-a).

In League of Legends

Darius, the Hand of Noxus

Fighter / Tank · Noxus

There’s no greater symbol of Noxian might than Darius, the empire’s most feared and battle-hardened commander. Rising from humble beginnings to become the Hand of Noxus, he cuts through the empire’s enemies, many of them Noxians themselves, and as leader of the Trifarian Legion he never doubts his cause or hesitates once his axe is raised (Riot Games, n.d.-b).

From the Rift to the table

Two of his card names come straight from League. Trifarian is the legion he leads, and Executioner fits the champion whose signature ultimate, Noxian Guillotine, finishes off weakened enemies. Legion as a keyword is a very Noxian idea as well, as it’s all about strength through relentless, coordinated pressure. His full story is on his official League of Legends champion page.

If you want a Legend that plays very differently, our Kai’Sa Spotlight is all about casting spells at the right moment, and every Spotlight so far is on the Cards page. Next up is Orianna, the first Radiance Legend that turns your gear into units.

It are what it are.
